LuminoKrom® photoluminescent paint is deployed on roads
LuminoKrom® photoluminescent road paint makes a stretch of road in the Landes region safer
The Ministry of Ecological and Solidarity Transition has selected a section of the RD29 in the commune of Saint-Pandelon to test the innovative LuminoKrom® road marking system. The device aims "to improve road safety by improving the visibility of road markings at night", says the Departmental Council. This road in the Dacquoise conurbation was chosen because it is lined with bends, is particularly accident-prone and is located in an interurban area without public lighting.

This paint is already applied on pedestrian and cycle paths in more than 60 local authorities to ensure safe mobility at night. It is an eco-sustainable technology that stores sunlight or headlight during the day and releases it at night, without any power supply or CO2 emissions. This marking is 50 times less expensive than public lighting and above all extremely quick to deploy to secure a place without public lighting.

An experimental marking to improve users' safety
After the pedestrian and cycle paths, the test carried out in Saint-Pandelon is the first on a road open to public traffic in France. The photoluminescent marking was applied on Wednesday 13 October 2021 to the outer strips of a 450-metre section of the RD29, a town located 5 kilometres south of Dax, in the Landes region (see article in SUD OUEST). The aim is to improve road safety by improving the visibility of horizontal road markings at night and particularly in poor weather conditions.

LuminoKrom® photoluminescent paint is a French innovation. It required more than 4 years of research and development. It is a patented technology created by OliKrom with the support of the Eiffage Group and the ADEME "Road of the Future" programme.
Other experiments on roads open to public traffic are already planned and should be carried out with the support of CEREMA before the end of the year.
