LuminoKrom®, phosphorescent paint for night-time mobility

Cerema is involved in a number of ways in assessing the performance of LuminoKrom® photoluminescent paint developed by OliKrom.

On the one hand, Cerema Méditerranée, at the request of the Conseil Départemental des Alpes Maritimes, is carrying out an assessment of the luminous performance of a product for guiding active modes of transport on a cycle path in the commune of Valbonne.

On the other hand, Cerema Ouest and CIRR's "Eclairage et Lumière" research team are evaluating the process as an alternative to public lighting as part of an extinction policy in the commune of Beaupréau-en-Mauges. In partnership with the Conseil Départemental de Loire-Atlantique (Loire-Atlantique departmental council), they are also studying the enhanced visibility that this paint could bring to a bend on the RD771.

Description of Luminokrom® paint

This photoluminescent paint process contains pigments that charge up under the effect of natural and artificial light, storing the captured light and releasing it throughout the day and night. The aim of these evaluations is to better define the luminous performance (particularly in terms of luminance) of photoluminescent markings at the start of the night and its decrease over the hours, and to characterize the user's visual perception of the process as a function of environmental conditions.
