[La Nouvelle République] The roadway becomes luminescent at night thanks to road markings.
The greenway between Langeais and Cinq-Mars-la-Pile has been developed by the departmental council and will be inaugurated in 2019. Running parallel to the departmental road for 2.7 km, it provides safe travel for pedestrians and cyclists between the two towns, for both residents and tourists.
The Direction des routes et des mobilités is interested in innovations in the fields of safety, energy efficiency and eco-compatibility. It has therefore just experimented on this route with a technology first tested in Pessac (Gironde) in 2018. With this solution, which does not require the installation of poles or a network, the lighting envisaged at the start of the project has been abandoned due to its cost.
It consists of photoluminescent markings that charge up with light during the day and release it throughout the night for ten hours: green dotted lateral lines perfectly delineate the track. Particularly useful in winter, when it gets dark fast.
The Department's agents applied the paint, and the monitoring and maintenance of the greenway are carried out under an agreement between the communes and the Department, which guarantees the long-term future of the system.
Finally, the Département will carry out counts to measure changes in the number of cyclists using the site.
