The City of Prévost is innovating to improve the safety of its citizens, cyclists and pedestrians by entering into a three-way partnership with LuminoKrom® and the Quebec road marking company T.R.A.
"We are very proud to be the first municipality in Quebec to implement a project to test this photoluminescent paint in our weather conditions. This system allows us to reinforce the safety of users, while providing luminous guidance in areas with little or no lighting, without disturbing the neighborhood," explains Paul Germain, Mayor of Prévost.
The road markings were installed at three different locations in the city:
- The P'tit train du Nord tourist site, near the Prévost train station
- The new parking lot in the extension of Rue de la Traverse
- The Clos prévostois passage, a pathway much used by families and young people
Prevost children involved in designing a lighted pathway
"For the Les Clos walkway, we had an inspiring idea. We launched a drawing contest with the complicity of the City's day camp. Children of all ages from Provost participated. The idea was to reproduce the winners' drawings on the path. The children will walk along the path, illuminated by their creations," said Pier-Luc Laurin, City Councillor for Les Clos prévostois.
The glow-in-the-dark trail was inaugurated on August 27, 2021. The giant traces of various creatures light up at night for the greatest pleasure of children and adults!
A possible deployment for the whole province of Quebec
The Ministry of Transport, a collaborator in the project, has shown great interest in following the project and will observe the results to determine the possible applications of this technology throughout the province.
