Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of LuminoKrom paint

In order to help local authorities in their decisions related to the energy management of outdoor lighting, LuminoKrom® has chosen to measure its environmental impact compared to "classic" lighting solutions.

The floor is given to an expert firm, APESA*, which conducted a comparative study by setting up a life cycle analysis of the LuminoKrom® product: a methodology for quantifying the environmental impacts of a product or service by taking into account all the stages of its life cycle (acquisition of raw materials, transport, manufacturing, use and end of life of the product).

In this comparative study, the environmental footprint of the LuminoKrom® marking was measured against two other marking solutions for pedestrian and bicycle paths: the luminous mast and the solar stud.

Different scenarios were carried out by APESA to determine which marking solution has the least impact on the environment. Three aspects were tested:

  • Climate change
  • Eutrophication of fresh water
  • Resource depletion

The LuminoKrom® solution offers the highest environmental gains.

If we compare the global impact of the lighting solutions studied, 1 km of public lighting by luminous masts is equivalent to 184 km of road markings made with LuminoKrom® paint!
