[Sud Ouest] Bassin d’Arcachon: the Vélodyssée is to become an illuminated cycle path at night
La Vélodyssée becomes an illuminated bike path with LuminoKrom® on the Arcachon Basin
LuminoKrom® photoluminescent paint will illuminate 35 kilometers of the Nord-Bassin bike path at night. The work, carried out by Coban this year, will cover the Vélodyssée crossing the territory and the Biganos-Bazas departmental track, Biganos-Mios section.
Elected representatives from the Communauté d'agglomération du Bassin d'Arcachon nord (Coban) attended an immersive demonstration of this innovation on June 14 in Arès, observing its nocturnal lighting effects. The Département, which manages the Vélodyssée, is also involved in this project.
In an article, Sud Ouest highlights the initiative to equip a section of the Vélodyssée at the Bassin d'Arcachon with LuminoKrom® photoluminescent paint. By capturing daylight and releasing it at night, this paint offers cyclists enhanced visibility without the need for electric lighting. The aim is to make night-time journeys on this busy cycleway safer, by improving visibility for users while respecting the environment.
This pilot project embodies the desire of local authorities to promote soft, sustainable mobility, while meeting the safety needs of cyclists. If the experiment is successful, it could inspire other local authorities to adopt LuminoKrom® for their infrastructure. The Bassin d'Arcachon is thus becoming a model of innovation and ecological transition, by offering a luminous and environmentally-friendly solution for its cycle paths.
