Phosphorescent paints, also known as glow in the dark paints, have the ability to store light energy when exposed to a light source and then re-emit it in the dark. This creates a luminous effect that is visible in the dark when the light is switched off. This property is due to the presence of special phosphorescent pigments in the paint, which once excited by natural or artificial light, become real sources of luminosity on their own, without electricity or electrical recharging.
LuminoKrom® offers a complete range of glow in the dark paints in several colours, exploiting the phenomenon of photoluminescence. Our phosphorescent signage lasts up to 10 hours in the dark, unlike fluorescent paint, which displays a temporary luminosity that ceases when the light source is switched off.

What is phosphorescent paint?
Glow in the dark paint exploits the phenomenon of luminescence, or to be more precise, phosphorescence. Thanks to special pigments incorporated into the material, the paints absorb daylight, whether natural sunlight or artificial lighting, and store it temporarily. They then re-emit it in the dark, producing a visible light guide without consuming electricity or any other energy source. This phenomenon is long-lasting, lasting up to 10 hours, unlike fluorescent paint which is ephemeral (fluorescent colour and coloured hues not visible in the dark).
In other words, an object is said to be phosphorescent when it has the ability to absorb light and re-emit it in the form of visible luminosity in the dark. A phosphorescent object is capable of storing light energy when exposed to a light source, then gradually releasing it diffusely in the form of luminescence.

Phosphorescent products can be used for decoration, art or safety signage... But it's really in the road and road signage sector that phosphorescent paints really come into their own. They act as a source of light in areas plunged into darkness, guiding users as they move around in the dark.
What colour is the paint?
We offer 3 different colours in our catalogue: almond green, white and yellow. Each colour complies with current standards and application practices, to suit a multitude of contexts. For example, yellow is generally used in industrial environments, whereas green and white are more likely to be used in the road sector.
It is therefore important to comply with the requirements of the application and to choose the right colours for your project. After all, each version of our paint is different in terms of colour, but also in terms of luminescence time.
Where can I use glow-in-the-dark paint?
It's important to choose a location that is conducive to phosphorescence before beginning application with a spray gun, airbrush or airless machine.
To get the maximum benefit from the incomparable performance of phosphorescence, it's essential to choose a place with no source of light at nightfall (street lights, car or motorbike headlights) or a place plunged into total darkness. Luminescence really comes into its own when the area is completely immersed in darkness. For example, car or motorbike headlights can detract from the relevance of photoluminescent markings on certain stretches of road.
What materials should LuminoKrom® products be applied to?
A whole range of phosphorescent markings has been created to suit different situations and substrates. Our range is available in different colours (white, almond green and yellow) and in different phases (aqueous or solvent-based). They can be applied to a variety of surfaces, including metal, asphalt and wood. Their luminescence time varies according to the formulation and the pigments present in the paint. Each marking is supplied with a technical data sheet outlining the specific characteristics of each product.

How do I apply glow-in-the-dark paint?
Phosphorescent paint is applied in the same way as any other conventional road paint. It does not require any particular application or special equipment. However, a significant first coat of white paint is required to take full advantage of the incomparable performance of the pigments responsible for the phosphorescence. Each paint is shipped with its technical data sheet and applicator memo for more application information.
