Description

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION – Glow in the dark water-based paint

A glow in the dark water-based paint has the ability to glow in the dark after exposure to a natural or artificial light source. This unique property comes from special pigments in the coating that absorb daylight and re-emit it diffusely over several hours. This phenomenon creates a luminous effect visible in the dark.

The photoluminescent acrylic coating combines both the ecological and sustainable benefits of water-based markings, while offering an illuminated beaconing solution for improved visibility and safety in the dark.

LuminoKrom® offers a complete range of gloq in the dark paints for a wide range of applications and options. In addition to our solvent-based road markings, you’ll find a range of water-based markings in different colors: white, yellow and almond green options.

APPLICATION

TIPS FOR EFFECTIVE WATER-BASED PAINT APPLICATION

The road surface must be at least one month old before use, and must be dry, clean and free from all traces of pollution, oil or grease (due to the ambient air or repeated passage of cars or other vehicles). If necessary, the application area can be washed and dried before laying. It is important to apply one of our glow in the dark markings over a first undercoat. This neutral white undercoat amplifies the glow effect of the phosphorescent technology and optimizes the luminous radiation.

Our water-based road coating can be applied in a variety of ways, using a roller or a brush. If you opt for brush application, choose special water-based paint equipment. If you choose to apply it with a roller, opt for something with short 6-8 mm bristles.

LuminoKrom® glow in the dark products are ready-to-use. No other professional substances (primer, oil, anti-rust protection) are required for the proper use of our luminescent technology.

Steps for applying green water-based paint

  1. Clean the area to be painted with water or a suitable cleaner.
  2. Mark the lines or symbols to be painted with tape or stencils, to ensure clean, precise lines. This also delimits the areas to be painted and protects surrounding areas.
  3. Apply the first white undercoat at a dosage of 400 g/m².
  4. Allow the first white coat to dry for the time specified by the undercoat supplier. Generally speaking, we recommend a drying time of 2 hours between the undercoat and the first green LuminoKrom® coat. 5. Prepare your equipment and clean the necessary tools.
  5. Prepare the glow in the dark paint by homogenizing the chosen LuminoKrom® paint. It must be thoroughly mixed before use to ensure a homogeneous consistency.
  6. Apply a coat of LuminoKrom® almond green luminescent paint, targeting a dosage of 900g/m². Be sure to follow the weight and speed recommendations given in the technical data sheet for each of our solvent-based or water-based markings.
  7. If you apply the coating by brush, proceed with a second coat. If you have chosen brush application, 2 additional coats will be required.
  8. Allow to dry for 24 hours. Drying time may vary slightly depending on the environment and ambient temperature at the time of application. During this period, it is important to protect the painted area from traffic and bad weather.
  9. After application, clean your tools with water to remove all substances.

ADVANTAGES OF PHOTOLUMINESCENT WATER-BASED PAINT

Acrylic coatings are substances whose main solvent is water, making them more environmentally-friendly and easier to use. It is distinguished by its low content of volatile organic solvents (VOCs), thus reducing toxic emissions and unpleasant odors.

Water-based paints include various types, such as acrylics, vinyls and latex paints.

They are appreciated for their fast drying, easy maintenance (no thinners required) and use on a wide range of surfaces such as walls, floors or objects, in various materials such as wood and metals. What's more, they offer good adhesion, high resistance to wear and weathering, and a durable, aesthetic finish. Thanks to their ecological and practical properties, those paints are widely used in interior and exterior decoration projects.

What is water-based paint?

Water-based paint, also called acrylic paint, is a substance whose main diluent is water, unlike solvent-based product which uses organic solvents such as white spirit or toluene. This characteristic gives water-based option a number of ecological and practical advantages.

Water-based markings remain an eco-friendly alternative, more respectful of the environment and health, while offering comparable performance to solvent-based substances. There are several categories of water-based paints, including acrylic, vinyl, latex and lime.

As the name suggests, acrylic paints are composed of acrylic resin-based binders, giving them great versatility and durability. Each type of material, particularly acrylic, has its own advantages and finishes: satin, matte or velvet. Acrylics and vinyls are most commonly used for their versatility and durability, while casein and lime stains are chosen for their natural qualities and satin finish.

What's the difference between water-based and solvent-based paints?

Firstly, water-based substances use water as a diluent, thus reducing the content of solvents and other volatile organic compounds, which are generally responsible for the strong, persistent odours and toxic emissions of solvent-based paints.

These are generally responsible for the strong, persistent odour and toxic emissions of solvent-based paints. In fact, unlike solvent-based products, water-based markings emit very little unpleasant odour, making them more pleasant to paint in enclosed interior spaces. The use of this type of marking is more respectful of the health of users, reducing exposure to toxic and irritating substances.

It is also less flammable, increasing safety during use. Finally, water-based products dry more quickly and require only soap and water for cleaning, rather than a specific solvent or oil. This simplifies cleaning operations by reducing the use of environmentally unfriendly chemical solutions.

On what materials is water-based paint used?

Water-based paints are highly versatile and can be used on a variety of substrates and materials (wood, metals...), offering solutions and options adapted to different contexts and finishes (satin, mat and velvet). Water-based coatings, acrylic or vinyl, are ideal for application to plaster partitions, offering a smooth, long-lasting finish and appearance.

They can also be found on brick and concrete walls, both indoors and out, thanks to their excellent adhesion and weather resistance. In the decorating field, this type of coating is also widespread on wood applications. They offer good protection and a beautiful matt or velvet finish for wood materials and woodwork: furniture, doors and window frames.

For metals, gates and fences can be coated with this type of paint. In fact, they are commonly used on metal surfaces or metal outdoor furniture.
