Description

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION – Glow in the dark water-based paint

Water-based photoluminescent paint has the ability to glow in the dark after exposure to a light source, whether natural or artificial. This unique property is due to special glow pigments present in the coating, which absorb daylight and re-emit it diffusely over several hours, creating a luminous effect visible in the dark.

Our water-based glow in the dark paint combines the ecological and sustainable advantages of acrylic markings with LuminoKrom® glow technology of our marking solution. Our luminescent products improves visibility and mobility safety in the dark.

LuminoKrom® is a complete range of glow in the dark paints for a variety of applications and surfaces. In addition to our solvent-based road markings, we offer several water-based marking options, available in different colors: white, yellow and almond green.

APPLICATION

TIPS FOR EFFECTIVE WATER-BASED PAINT APPLICATION

It's important to apply our luminescent marking product to a white undercoat of paint. This white neutral undercoat amplifies the luminous effect of the glow in the dark technology and optimizes light radiation.

The road surface must be at least one month old before use. It must be dry, clean and free from all traces of pollution, oil or grease (due to the ambient air or repeated passage of car wheels or other vehicles). The surface must also be sufficiently rough for the coating to adhere to.

If required, the application area can be washed and dried before painting.

Our white-color road paint can be applied in two ways: with a roller or a brush. If you opt for brush application, choose equipment specially designed for water-based paint. If you choose to use a roller, opt for a model with short 6-8mm bristles. Our water-based glow in the dark sign coating is not suitable for pressure application.

The LuminoKrom® phosphorescent marking range is ready to use. The products require no dilution before application.

Steps for applying white water-based paint

  1. Clean the surface to be painted with water or a suitable cleaner.
  2. Use tape or stencils to mark the lines or symbols to be painted, to ensure clean, precise lines. This also marks out the areas to be painted and protects the rest of the environment.
  3. Apply the first neutral white undercoat at a dosage of 400 g/m².
  4. Allow the first white coat to dry for the time specified by the undercoat supplier. Generally speaking, we recommend a drying time of 2 hours between the undercoat and the first coat of LuminoKrom® paint.
  5. Prepare your equipment and clean the necessary tools with water.
  6. Prepare the glow in the dark paint by homogenizing the LuminoKrom® paint in the pot. It must be thoroughly mixed before use to ensure a homogeneous consistency.
  7. Apply a coat of LuminoKrom® white luminescent paint, targeting a dosage of 900g/m². Be sure to follow the weight and speed recommendations given on the technical data sheet for each of our acrylic references.
  8. If you apply the marking by brush, proceed with a second coat. If you have chosen brush application, 2 additional coats will be necessary.
  9. Allow to dry for 24 hours. Drying time may vary slightly depending on the environment and ambient temperature at the time of application. During this time, it's important to protect the painted area from traffic and weather, to avoid walking on the painted floor.
  10. After laying, clean your tools with water to remove all substances.

« This stretch of road was notorious for accidents, with many people falling off their bikes. That's why we chose it for our trial. It's a soft light, which doesn't generate light pollution, but which provides simple guidance in places that are plunged into darkness. »

Philippe Scheibling, Head of the Public Roads and Networks Department, City of Colmar

« It makes all the difference between two localities where there's no street lighting! Even with a light on your bike, it really helps. »

Cécilia, Pro Vélo Chablais Committee

ADVANTAGES OF GLOW IN THE DARK WATER-BASED PAINT

Acrylic paint, also known as water-based paint, is a coating whose main solvent is water, making it more ecological and easier to use (compare to solvent-based paint). It is distinguished by its low volatile organic solvent (VOC) content, reducing toxic emissions and unpleasant odors. They are appreciated for their ease of application, fast drying and easy maintenance (no thinner required).

They can be used on a wide range of surfaces such as walls, floors or objects, and in a variety of materials such as wood and metals. What's more, they offer good adhesion, high resistance to wear and weathering, and a durable, aesthetic finish.

Thanks to their ecological and practical properties, water-based paints are widely used in interior and exterior decoration projects.

What is water-based paint?

Water-based products use water as their main diluent, compare to solvent-based solutions which use organic solvents. This characteristic gives acrylic paints a number of ecological and practical advantages.

Acrylic marking products offers an eco-responsible alternative, more respectful of the environment and health, while offering comparable performance to solvent-based markings. Thanks to the absence of solvents, they represent a significant step towards more sustainable, environmentally-friendly coating practices.

When is LuminoKrom® luminescent paint used indoors?

Aqua luminescent paints are useful in a variety of fields and applications, both indoors and outdoors. This is due to their many ecological and practical advantages, as well as their exceptional luminescence performance in dark environments.

In enclosed environments, glow in the dark paint is commonly used in industrial settings and for underground and parking lot signage. Indeed, these environments are generally subject to glaring lack of light or potential power cuts.

In industrial environments, our marking products are ideal for floor or wall signage, improving guidance and visibility in areas of darkness. They are typically used to paint emergency exits, equipment and machinery, as well as stairs and safety barriers. LuminoKrom® products offer enhanced protection and visibility for night-time mobility.

In underground parking lots, water-based products are essential for marking parking spaces, traffic lanes and safety zones.

Thanks to their fast implementation and neutral odor due to the absence of thinner, the LuminoKrom® aqua range is ideal for use in enclosed areas.

When is LuminoKrom® luminescent paint used outdoors?

Due to their eco-responsible and environmentally-friendly nature, aqua road marking products are becoming increasingly popular. White neutral water-based road marking plays a crucial role in outdoor applications. It is used to mark roads, cycle paths and crosswalks in urban environments.

Our white water-based road paint references offer a luminescence autonomy of 6 hours, thanks to its class E certification. Glow in the dark coating is used for road markings at night, ensuring enhanced visibility of road markings without energy consumption.

Our glow in the dark products offer excellent adhesion and weather resistance. They are therefore excellent solutions for urban signage, combining technical performance and durability to enhance road safety for soft mobility at night.

How long is LuminoKrom® luminescent paint visible?

Our product catalog offers a wide range of references in different color-options (yellow, white and almond green) and formats. LuminoKrom® products is available in water-based, solvent-based, cold-coat and aerosol formulations to meet your specific needs and applications.

Depending on the color chosen, luminescence performance and duration will vary. Almond green markings offer unrivalled luminosity of over 10 hours, giving them class G certification. White and yellow markings, on the other hand, are certified class E, and have luminescence time of 6 hours in a dark environment.
