APPLICATION

TIPS FOR EFFECTIVE SOLVENT-BASED PAINT APPLICATION

The road surface must be at least one month old before using any product, and must be dry, clean and free from all traces of pollution, oil or grease (due to the ambient air or repeated passage of cars or other vehicles).

If necessary, the surface can be washed and dried before painting.

It's crucial to apply photoluminescent products over a first coat of white-color paint. This white undercoat amplifies the luminous effect of the phosphorescent paint.

Our road paint can be applied in a variety of ways: with an airless machine, or with a pneumatic spray gun. Marking machines are used for professional road marking. These machines are equipped with spraying systems for fast, precise application.

The airbrush gun is used for smaller surfaces on floors or walls, as well as for signage markings. It ensures uniform application.

LuminoKrom® phosphorescent paint is ready-to-use. It requires no dilution before painting.

By following the installation steps below, you can ensure effective, long-lasting use of our green solvent-based road paint, contributing to the safety and legibility of road markings.

Steps for applying green solvent-based paint

  1. Clean the area to be painted with water or a suitable cleaner.
  2. Mark the lines or symbols to be painted with tape or stencils, to ensure clean, precise lines. This also delimits the areas to be painted and protects surrounding areas.
  3. Apply the first white undercoat paint at a dosage of 400 g/m².
  4. Allow the paint of first coat to dry for 30 minutes. It is important to respect the drying time of the undercoat before applying one of our phosphorescent paints.
  5. Prepare your equipment and tools and clean the machine with the rinsing solvent.
  6. Prepare the paint in the shade of your choice. Homogenize the paint from the chosen LuminoKrom® range (this ensures that the pigments are evenly distributed in the product). It must be thoroughly mixed before use to ensure a homogeneous consistency. Depending on the context and application conditions, it may be necessary to dilute the paint with an appropriate solvent to obtain the desired viscosity.
  7. Apply a coat of LuminoKrom® almond green luminescent paint, targeting a dosage of 900g/m². Be sure to follow the weight and speed recommendations given on the technical data sheet for each of our solvent and water-based paints.
  8. Allow to dry for 45 minutes. Drying time may vary slightly depending on the environment and ambient temperature at the time of application. During this period, it is important to protect the painted area from traffic and bad weather.
  9. After application, clean your tools with acetyl thinner.

« More and more people are using this greenway for family walks and sporting activities. I see a lot more pedestrians coming and going between the two communes - it's like night and day! he observes. Before, you had to venture out onto the road with cars travelling at 80 kph. It was suicide. »

Jean, a jogger on the greenway between Pussay and Angerville

«  Conventional street lighting is very expensive to install and maintain. Photoluminescent markings are more suitable, not least because they don't add to light pollution. »

Sophie Rigault, departmental councillor in charge of mobility and roads - Essonne

ADVANTAGES OF GREEN GLOW IN THE DARK SOLVENT PAINT

A solvent-based paint is one in which the binder and pigments are dissolved in a volatile organic solvent. These solvents, often hydrocarbons, alcohols, ketones or esters, serve to thin the paint, making it easier to use and adhere to surfaces. During application, the solvent evaporates, leaving behind a solid layer of binder and pigments.

Solvent-based road paints offer a number of advantages and options. Firstly, they dry quickly after application. They are also tough and durable, and stand up well to extreme weather conditions. They are often used in industrial and outdoor applications, such as automotive paint, metal structures and infrastructure. Their superior adhesion to a variety of surfaces, including metals and plastics, makes them a preferred choice for demanding environments.

Where is solvent-based paint used?

Solvent-based products are used in many contexts where their properties and different specific tints are advantageous: bodywork, automotive, construction, aviation...

Solvent-based paints, especially the yellow color, are widely used in industrial environments because of their long-lasting and resistance to extreme conditions. They are ideal for painting or varnishing machinery, industrial equipment and metal infrastructures exposed to high temperatures, humidity and chemical substances.

Solvent-based products provide a smooth, glossy finish, while offering a wide range of colors (white, yellow, green…).

In road marking, these paints are also favored for their fast-drying properties and durability under heavy traffic and varied climatic conditions. The result is reliable, hard-wearing road marking.

In Europe for example, the green glow in the dark paint is widely used for soft mobility on greenways and cyclepaths. Green color is mainly associated to ecology and eco-friendly practices, compare to the yellow color which is mainly used to highlight a danger or a permanenlty obstacle.

How is LuminoKrom® glow in the dark solvent-based paint used?

Our LuminoKrom® luminescent paint, thanks to the presence of glowing pigment in the product, acts as a luminous guide on the ground or on the wall to accompany night-time mobility. Compare to fluorescent paint, phosphorescent products glow in the dark, when the environment shows a lack of light. The glowing pigment captures the light energy during the day and will glow at night or when lighting is off.

Our almond-green marking product can be used in road safety contexts (cycle paths, green lanes, crosswalks, etc.), but also in pedestrian environments with pavement markings, for example. In the dark, our paint will reveal a long-lasting, glowing green marking. It will guide users by showing them the way to follow.
