The project included the installation of a continuous axial strip along the road, as well as animation markings at the crossing points with Rue Auriol, areas often subject to complex interactions between different road users. These photoluminescent markings capture light during the day and release it at night, providing an environmentally-friendly light source that enhances safety without additional energy expenditure.
Carried out by Brest Métropole's own teams, this initiative illustrates the city's determination to promote innovative solutions for its infrastructure. It contributes to safer travel by reducing the risk of accidents and facilitating user orientation in low-light conditions, making this greenway a model of accessibility and safety.
Realization feedback
«It encourages soft mobility in unlit areas, but also complements street lighting. It makes city traffic safer, by enhancing visibility of obstacles and danger zones in strategic locations, such as intersections. »
Léonard Vassor, Mobility Department, Brest Métropole (BM)
« This innovative paint stores sunlight during the day and releases it throughout the night. With no energy expenditure, several dangerous areas will be marked out to make night-time travel safer. »
Florian Prével, Deputy Sustainable Development Officer
