A project to make night-time travel safer
In July 2020, the Service Inter-établissements de Gestion du Domaine Universitaire (SIGDU) undertook a project to improve safety for cyclists on the Montaigne-Montesquieu Campus in Pessac, Gironde. A 6 cm wide T3 discontinuous central strip was applied to a kilometer of cycle path between avenue Pey Berland and avenue des Arts. Photoluminescent directional arrows were also added to guide users. The work was carried out by SERI - Signalisation et Marquage au sol.
The benefits of LuminoKrom®: an innovative, sustainable solution
LuminoKrom® photoluminescent paint charges up with natural or artificial light during the day and gives it back at night, offering visibility for up to 10 hours in the dark without electricity consumption or CO₂ emissions. This technology improves cyclists' safety by providing luminous guidance in unlit areas, while reducing light pollution. What's more, it's quick and easy to apply, comparable to conventional road paint, making it an economical and environmentally-friendly solution for infrastructure managers wishing to secure their facilities in a sustainable way.
Feedback on LuminoKrom®'s contribution, user word:
"What a pleasure to discover this morning a new bicycle path with phosphorescent markings at night !! A 100% high-tech innovation # RégionNouvelleAquitaine. Look forward to this fall! Thank you #Olikrom"

"This track turns and it's complicated to follow at night. Now that this line lights up, I can see it a lot better. And I think I'll be able to continue cycling to work this winter.
