An innovative project for user safety
In September 2020, the commune of Carcans, in collaboration with the Communauté de Communes "Médoc Atlantique", undertook a project to make night-time travel safer on the cycle path along the Bombannes beach, near the UCPA Beach Club. The aim was to improve safety for cyclists and pedestrians in an area with no street lighting, while preserving local biodiversity. To achieve this, a continuous 10 cm-wide central strip was marked with LuminoKrom® photoluminescent paint, accompanied by bicycle logos. In addition, a photoluminescent crosswalk was created to make it easier for pedestrians to cross to the beach at night. The work was carried out by teams from Eiffage Route Sud-Ouest and Alinéa Signalisation.
The benefits of LuminoKrom®: an eco-responsible and efficient solution
LuminoKrom® photoluminescent paint captures natural or artificial light during the day and restores it at night, offering visibility for up to 10 hours in the dark without electricity consumption or CO₂ emissions. This innovative technology improves user safety by providing luminous guidance in unlit areas, while preserving the environment by reducing light pollution. What's more, LuminoKrom® is quick and easy to apply, comparable to conventional road paint, making it a practical and cost-effective solution for local authorities wishing to secure their infrastructures in a sustainable way.
Feedback on the contribution of LuminoKrom® luminous paint, user comment:
Pedestrian, user of the site "It's great to be able to find your way around at night, especially to delimit the bend and the approaches to the road. We also come in winter and the place is particularly dark. It's a simple and clever to secure a site by creating a luminous guide. Why do not all the cities of France equip their cycling area? "
