Dijon, a LuminoKrom® photoluminescent pedestrian pathway
Luminescent markings in the city of Dijon to make travelling safer at night
LuminoKrom® photoluminescent paint is being deployed to improve safety for cyclists and pedestrians at night. The city of Dijon has chosen this method of marking out its roads, which is much more environmentally friendly than installing public lighting. The Proximark teams of the Helios Group installed LuminoKrom® paint on a 1,000-metre long continuous strip of the canal bank, complete with 40 bicycle logos and 40 directional arrows, to mark the cycle path along the canal (rue de l'écluse).
The LuminoKrom® marking exploits the renewable energy of the sun. The paint captures light during the day and lights up at night without any electricity consumption or CO2 emissions. It is quick and easy to install on infrastructure. As soon as night falls, the marking becomes a luminous guide to orient users in the night.
A project to make night-time travel safer
In 2021, Dijon Metropole launched a project to improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists along the canal, rue de l'Écluse. This path, used by many users, suffered from poor night-time visibility due to the absence of public lighting. To remedy this, LuminoKrom® photoluminescent markings were applied to 1,000 meters of continuous bank striping. In addition, 40 bicycle logos and 40 directional arrows were integrated to guide users intuitively, even in the dark. This innovative and environmentally-friendly project is part of a sustainable development approach aimed at improving infrastructure safety without any additional energy impact.
The benefits of LuminoKrom®: a sustainable and effective innovation
LuminoKrom® photoluminescent paint provides optimum night-time visibility by restoring the light captured during the day. Able to illuminate for 10 hours in the dark, it requires no power supply, reducing carbon footprint and light pollution. Thanks to this technology, the path has become safer and more accessible, reassuring cyclists and pedestrians by enabling them to visualize the route and anticipate obstacles. What's more, LuminoKrom® is quick and easy to apply, comparable to conventional road paint, making it a cost-effective solution for local authorities keen to combine safety and sustainability.
