Epinal, a photoluminescent bicycle path with LuminoKrom® paint
Luminescent markings in the town of Epinal to make night-time travel safer
LuminoKrom® photoluminescent paint is being deployed in the town of Epinal to improve visibility and safety for cyclists and pedestrians at night. This new method of road marking was selected because of its low environmental impact, which is much more respectful than a public lighting installation. The Proximark teams of the Helios Group installed LuminoKrom® paint on the discontinuous roadside strips, together with directional pictograms.
The LuminoKrom® marking uses the renewable energy of the sun. The paint captures light during the day and lights up at night without any electricity consumption or CO2 emissions. It is quick and easy to install on infrastructure. As soon as night falls, the marking becomes a luminous guide to orient users in the night.
A project to make night-time travel safer
In November 2020, the Vosges town of Épinal undertook an innovative project to enhance the safety of cyclists and pedestrians travelling at night. To achieve this, the municipality opted to apply LuminoKrom® photoluminescent paint to some of its cycle paths. Teams from Proximark, part of the Hélios Group, produced the discontinuous edge striping, complemented by directional pictograms, to guide users effectively. This choice is part of an ecological approach, favoring a low environmental impact solution over the installation of traditional public lighting.
The benefits of LuminoKrom®: a sustainable and effective innovation
LuminoKrom® photoluminescent paint harnesses the sun's renewable energy by capturing light during the day and releasing it at night, offering visibility for over 10 hours in the dark. This technology operates without electricity consumption or CO₂ emissions, helping to reduce light pollution and preserve the environment. Installation is quick and easy, comparable to conventional road paint, making it a cost-effective solution for local authorities. By transforming itself into a luminous guide as soon as night falls, LuminoKrom® improves user safety by enabling them to clearly visualize the course of cycle paths, anticipate bends or obstacles, and travel with confidence, even in the absence of public lighting.
