Grand Chalon, LuminoKrom® photoluminescent marking
LuminoKrom® photoluminescent paint registered in Saint-Marcel
In 2021, the Communauté d'Agglomération du Grand Chalon undertook a project to improve user safety on a pedestrian and cycle route between Saint-André and Chalon-sur-Saône. This road, which runs through rural areas with no street lighting, needed to be made more visible at night. To meet this challenge, LuminoKrom® photoluminescent paint was applied by Signature Bourgogne-Franche-Comté.
The first marking was carried out in April 2021, followed by an extension in September of the same year. This innovative marking provides luminous guidance for pedestrians and cyclists, improving their safety when travelling at night.
Nature of the photoluminescent project
The Grand Chalon agglomeration community has initiated a project to secure a pedestrian and cyclist link in the countryside below the unlit RD5 departmental road. This 500-meter-long stretch of greenway links the Pont de Bourgogne with the Bute campsite and the center of Saint-Marcel-la-Bressane. To enhance night-time visibility, a central 6 cm wide T3 photoluminescent strip was applied, complemented by concrete studs. This configuration, although promising, was intended to encourage use of this little-used link due to its darkness.
In September 2021, a second phase was launched to extend this track by a further 2 kilometers. A new 6 cm T1' central strip was applied, completing and optimizing the soft mobility network. This work is part of an overall approach to making home-to-work journeys safer and more attractive for local users, while promoting walking and cycling in rural areas.
The advantages of LuminoKrom®: an environmentally-friendly, high-performance solution
LuminoKrom® photoluminescent paint charges with natural or artificial light during the day and restores it at night, offering visibility for up to 10 hours in the dark without electricity consumption or CO₂ emissions. This innovative technology improves user safety by providing luminous guidance in unlit areas, while preserving the environment by reducing light pollution. What's more, it's quick and easy to apply, comparable to conventional road paint, making it an economical and sustainable solution for local authorities wishing to secure their infrastructures responsibly.
