Innovative markings to make night-time cycling safer in Valais

A 1 km section of secure cycle path

In October 2021, the Mobility Department, in collaboration with the Swiss Federal Roads Office, undertook the safety upgrading of a 1 km section of a cycle path located in the Chablais region, in the heart of the Canton of Valais.

The application of LuminoKrom® photoluminescent paint ensures optimum visibility for cyclists, reducing the risk of accidents and providing clear wayfinding, even at night or in poorly lit areas.

A sustainable solution to promote soft mobility

LuminoKrom® captures daylight and releases it for 10 hours at night, guaranteeing uninterrupted visibility without the need for electricity.

This project illustrates the commitment of the Canton of Valais to sustainable and safe infrastructures, encouraging the use of soft mobility and meeting today's environmental challenges.

Testimonials

"It's more reassuring, especially when you get home quite late. It stands out clearly against the ground, giving good guidance on the bike path. The quality of the paintwork is really impressive."

Sinah and Frédéric, Vionnaz residents

"Between two towns where there's no street lighting, it makes all the difference! Even with a light on your bike, it really helps."

Cécilia, Comité Pro Vélo Chablais
