Saint-Pandélon, first roadside depot for LuminoKrom® marking
LuminoKrom® photoluminescent paint on the road in Saint-Pandélon near Dax
An experiment in 2021 to make an accident-prone road safer
In October 2021, the Conseil Départemental des Landes has initiated an innovative experiment on the RD29, in Saint-Pandelon, near Dax. This stretch of road, characterized by dangerous bends and lacking street lighting, has been identified as particularly accident-prone.
To enhance user safety, LuminoKrom® photoluminescent paint was applied to the outer strips of a 450-meter section. This marking is designed to improve night-time visibility of the roadway, providing light guidance for drivers in high-risk areas.
An ecological and economical solution for road safety
LuminoKrom® paint captures light from daylight or vehicle headlights and releases it at night, emitting a visible glow without the need for a power supply. This technology offers a cost-effective alternative to street lighting installation, costing around 50 times less and requiring very little installation time.
By improving the visibility of road infrastructures in the dark, LuminoKrom® helps to reduce the risk of accidents, particularly in rural or interurban areas with no lighting. What's more, by limiting light pollution, this solution respects the environment while ensuring greater safety for road users.
Nature of the worksite: marking applied to a particularly accident-prone section of the RD29. This road in the Dax conurbation was chosen because it is lined with bends, is particularly accident-prone and is located in an interurban area without public lighting. This is a 3-year experiment, in partnership with Eiffage.
Location: outer strips of a 450-metre section of the RD29, in Saint-Pandélon, a town located 5 kilometres south of Dax in the Landes region.
Applicator: Contract applicator
Date of completion of the LuminoKrom® marking: October 2021
